My girlfriend repairs to California for the holidays every year, but this year she was dismayed to discover that her father is planning on selling their family's stock, near-mint 1985 K5 Blazer (not pictured), which I have coveted as long as I knew of its existence. She's already chased away one buyer for me and is currently filling his head with images of keeping it in the family.
I WILL own this beast in 2014, and I WILL drive it to my apartment in New York City.

I can't believe I never made the white Bronco/black Blazer connection before. GENIUS.

I love this thing. Saw one on a car show here... It's the biggest thing I've ever seen.

I drove it around LA last time I was there and I almost crushed a Prius.

HAH! That's karma for 'ya, because some time ago I was walking along with my girlfriend and a Prius almost hit her when backing up, because we didn't hear it coming... Thank god it was doing like 3mph.
So how is it to drive? I'm asking because a late 80's Suburban is one of my all time, top 10 dream cars. Or trucks.
I'm imagining it as boat-ey, rolling about but yet somehow sure-footed and stabile.

It's pretty boaty, but its so big that yeah, it does feel stable. The steering is too loose though, and from what I understand it's a common complaint (can't say for sure b/c this is the only one I've driven). You can literally spin the wheel around while parked with a single finger, and it gets kind of squirrely above 40.

My first-ever contact with 4x4s was via some 1/64 white '80s Blazer. I approve. (Plus it actually goes off road, even if it's not excellent at it).

Oh god no.
I had an '85 Suburban as a band vehicle for awhile, right before gas went up in price. It was insane. It was like driving a house. I have long arms and could barely reach the radio. I had no idea where other cars/zip codes were. I won't even get into the handling characteristics.
I much, much, much prefer my '96 Jeep Cherokee.
That said, these old blazers are rad!

My dad had a 79. I loved that thing. I swear, someday, I will find a 79 Blazer and restore it to look like his, but with some modern updates and rust protection.
